Welcome to Mrs. Keeton's Study Zone!!!
(No Hard Hat Required!)
I am so happy to see all of these happy faces so EXCITED to learn about science this year!!!!
The first few days, we will be learning HOW to be great science students. Our science THINKERS will be making a science composition book this year. It will be filled with all kinds of reference information, practice interactives and learning tools. These go home every night so that the student and parent can review what our lesson was almost every day. The front of this book will be loaded with classroom reference data by day 3 of school (I hope!) It will have a list of the TEKS (topics covered and expectations), my email and remind 101 information, a social contract for behaviors expected in class, a procedure for dissecting multiple choice questions, the safety contract ....and lots more.
Homework for science is not daily - perhaps twice a week. It is usually to recopy a doodle note, or verbalize information to an adult. Sometimes it is an activity they complete (like....trace the flow of electricity from a toaster to the outside pole...with an adult) Afterwards, they might draw a diagram of what they learned. Most homework assignments require a parent signature upon completion because they are not traditional book work. As tests approach, I also assign studying as homework. The method is their choice (read notes, rewrite info, website vocab or videos, etc). But, they MUST check in with you prior and after. The reason is because ....if they always study the same way with poor results, we need to let them know that the method is not working and give them options for another style of study. I want to create great thinkers in here, and I appreciate all your help to get them there!
We can get started now.......

I have broken the terms up into six weeks. You can "star" words you want to work on instead of using the whole list.
Let's have a fantastic year together!!
